The Calm Parent’s Guide to

Newborn Photos

DISCOVER

A simple, reassuring guide for expecting parents

Welcoming a new baby comes with a lot of decisions — and newborn photos often feel like one more thing to figure out.

This guide is here to make that part easier.

I’ve photographed newborns and growing children for years, and if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s this:
you don’t need to have everything figured out right now.

You just need the right information — and a calm plan.

When to Book Newborn Photos

(This is the part most parents wish they knew earlier.)

The best time to book newborn photos is during your second trimester, ideally between 20–28 weeks pregnant.

Why so early?

  • Due dates fill before babies arrive

  • Sessions are scheduled around your due date, not your birth date

  • Booking early gives you one less decision later

  • Booking early gives me time to create custom props and designs for your session.

If your baby arrives early or late — don’t worry.
I book a limited number of newborns each month specifically so there’s flexibility.

What Actually Matters (and What Doesn’t)

When parents picture newborn photos, they often worry about:

  • The perfect nursery

  • A cooperative baby

  • Knowing how to pose

  • Feeling camera-ready

Here’s what actually matters:

  • A photographer who understands newborn behavior

  • A calm, unhurried pace

  • Gentle guidance for parents

  • A baby-led approach

Everything else is secondary — and that’s where professional support makes all the difference.

How to Choose the Right Newborn Photographer

When you’re researching photographers, look for someone who:

  • Is licensed and insured.

  • Has been educated in newborn photography best practices.

  • Has clear safety protocols.

  • Has a photographic style that you love.

  • Has a clear, baby-led process.

  • Guides you through artwork and final selections

  • Creates an experience that feels calm — not rushed

You’re not just choosing photos.

You’re choosing how you’ll feel during one of the most tender seasons of your life.

What If I’m Not Ready to Commit to a Full Session?

This is more common than you think.

Many parents know they want newborn photos — but don’t yet know how much or what kind.

That’s why I offer a gentle starting option called Simple Sessions.

It’s designed for parents who want:

  • Beautiful newborn images

  • A shorter, simpler session

  • The option to upgrade later

You don’t have to decide everything now.
You just have to start.

What Happens After Baby Arrives?

Once your baby is here:

  • You’ll contact me within a few days

  • We’ll choose the best session date

  • I’ll guide you through what to expect

  • You’ll arrive knowing you’re taken care of

My role is to create space for you to slow down — and document this season without pressure.
