Natural light is one of the simplest ways to improve photos of your children — and it’s available in every home. This gentle prompt helps you slow down and notice how light shapes a moment, without pressure or perfection.
Find a window in your home and turn off any overhead lights. Bring your child close to the window and photograph them using only the natural light coming in.
Window light is soft, directional, and flattering. It creates gentle shadows that add depth and emotion to photos, even when you’re using a phone. This kind of light helps everyday moments feel calmer and more intentional.
📷 Tip:
Position the window to one side of your child’s face rather than directly in front. This helps the photo feel more dimensional and natural.
You don’t need a smile.
You don’t need them to look at the camera.
Stillness works beautifully here.
This prompt is part of The Everyday Childhood Photo Project — a free, gentle photo project offering weekly prompts to help moms document childhood with intention.
