Some photographs capture what is happening.
Others capture what is about to happen.
This prompt invites you to notice the small pauses that come just before a moment unfolds.
Photograph your child in the moment just before an action begins.
The moment before something happens often carries quiet anticipation. A child leaning forward before running, reaching for an object, or pausing before laughter can hold as much emotion as the action itself.
Photographing this pause can make an image feel thoughtful and alive.
Keep your camera ready and watch for small shifts in movement — a hand lifting, a body leaning forward, or a glance toward something just outside the frame.
You don’t need to capture the action itself.
Sometimes the pause before it tells the better story.
This prompt is part of The Everyday Childhood Photo Project — a free, gentle photo project offering weekly prompts to help moms document childhood with intention.
